The family behind Country Lane Farms used to own a typical commercial chicken farm complete with 10,000 laying hens, but when they started researching antibiotic-free chickens, they decided to do things differently. They sold that first farm in 1999 and moved two miles north, where they raise only a couple thousand chickens in a specially designed barn on what is now known as Country Lane Farms.
In addition to shunning antibiotics, the family refuses to use hormones and animal byproducts, and they never use chemicals in the barn. They then sell their birds directly to customers at pickup locations around Alberta. Now, they offer customers antibiotic- and hormone-free beef and fish, too.
