The "toast" part of Toast Wine Bar has two meanings—the first is an obvious reference to people raising their wine glasses to salute something. The second is a less obvious reference to actual toast, which sports gourmet toppings and accompanies glasses of wine. For instance, there's The Woodland, which crowns a crusty piece of potato sourdough with walnut-sage pesto, sweet potato, mushrooms, and pecorino (pairs well with Good Earth cabernet franc). There's also the Squashen It, a mixture of roasted-garlic ricotta, squash confit, and boozy cranberries (pairs well with Big Head chardonnay).
It's not surprising that the wine bar has gourmet toast; after all, its owners became good friends while working at the Bread Bar. But it's not the only thing on the menu, which also sports meat and cheese boards and roasted nuts.
