About The Big Fish Derby

The Big Fish Derby: My Haliburton Highlands is a catch-measure-photograph-release fishing competition that helps support the community fishery program. A portion of each registration is donated to the Haliburton Highlands Outdoors Association to aid in fish stocking programs, ensuring a healthy fish population throughout the area.

  • Haliburton Highlands Outdoors Association: Operates a non-profit community fishery program that each year stocks area lakes, in partnership with the Ministry of Natural Resources, with an average 50,000 fingerlings.
  • Photographing your catch: Anglers take a photograph of each catch next to a measuring tape before releasing the fish. Pictures are submitted online and the longest fish in each category is awarded at the conclusion of the event.
  • Cash and prizes: Over $5,000 in cash and prizes are up for grabs, including grand prizes of $500 for the longest bass, walleye, and muskie. For those not lucky enough to catch a lunker, there will be random draws for fishing equipment, guided fishing trips, overnight stays, and more.
