About Helmsman Cruise and Learn

The sailing adventures at Helmsman Cruise and Learn transform soft-palmed landlubbers into masters of the sea. Under the tutelage of Captain Wade Karmann—a sailor with more than 20 years of experience—students learn how to wrangle jibs and lines on the open water. Learning the ropes: During three-hour Sailing adventures, passengers take a gander at wildlife while learning a thing or two about controlling a sailboat. Crewing the craft: On longer trips, students learn detailed information about sailing physics, boat components, and more to gain the knowledge required for ISPA Competent Crew Certification. Manning the helm: Competent crew members further their studies of weather conditions, ocean navigation, and crew management to satisfy the prerequisites for ISPA Day Skipper certification.
