About this Business

Captain George Vancouver's journey through North America more than 200 years ago took him through the Salish Sea, a vast network of coastal waterways along the Northwestern Pacific Coast. The Salish Sea Coastal Rowing Club (SSCR) take their name from the same sea that Vancouver traveled, and draw inspiration from his independence and imagination. The pioneering spirit is why the FISA (also known as the World Rowing Federation) recognized the SSCR as the first coastal rowing club in the British Columbia region.

Based out of the Jericho Sailing Centre, rowers of all skill levels are welcome, and instructors help students master the techniques required for handling all manner of watercraft. In addition to taking engaging hands-on lessons, club members can also check out crafts from the club's impressive fleet. Their Eurodiffusion boats are dedicated to coastal rowing, which means their boats are better built to withstand waves and chops than standard flat water rowing boats. That allows visitors to row in more diverse weather conditions. It also provides more time to row throughout the year in places like Vanvouver's English Bay, where rowers can see grey whales, harbor porpoises, seals, and a variety of sea birds.
