Participants in The Great Climate Race aren't running for their lives; they're running to save lives by helping protect the earth. Not only do the proceeds of this 10K and 2.5K walk and run go to support local renewable-energy projects, but it's 100% off-the-grid. It uses only solar and bike power for all of its electricity, both of which are vastly more eco-friendly and efficient than gas, nuclear, and hamster power. Runners can then feel good about helping the planet while enjoying a professionally timed event where they'll receive a finisher's medal and compete for a chance to win prizes. The event has a festival atmosphere and there are displays, technology demos, music and healthy snacks for families and friends around the finish line. There are all kinds of live music is surprising stops along the route, circus performers, solar powered art displays and more. Prizes are available for fastest Men, Women, and Gender Variant categories as well as for categories such as having the most fun, community contribution, best costume, and having the most fun.
