About Joe's BBQ Boat

Joe's BBQ Boat renders land-bound cookouts a thing of the past. Taking inspiration from European restaurants and resorts where barbecue boats enjoy popularity, its founder began constructing 13-foot-wide donut-like vessels at the docks of Granville Island in 2014, with each featuring a propane grill in its center. From the obvious curiosity of onlookers, "it seemed that Vancouver had already loved the idea even before we launched," as Joe puts it.

Since 2014, the boats have been updated with eco-friendly electric motors, but their job remains the same: to move summer get-togethers offshore, where the ocean air whisks away the heat while up to eight riders take turns manning the boat and the grill. Each bright-orange vessel comes equipped with an umbrella to further ensure riders' comfort under a sweltering sun or drizzly sky as they explore the pristine waters around Vancouver and Victoria.
