About this Business
Andrew and Meera Newman have always loved spending time on the ocean, taking in its natural wonders. In an effort to share that passion with others, the two opened White Rock Sea Tours and Whale Watching in 2015.
- The crew: Meera brings years of experience in tourism administration and operations. Andrew and the other Captains have search and rescue experience. The rest of crew boasts impressive résumés, too, with backgrounds in photography and marine biology and training in nursing, fire fighting, and first aid.
- The fleet: The fleet at White Rock Sea Tours consists of Guardian 1 and 2, a pair of Zodiac Hurricane 733s. Both rigid-hulled inflatable boats—previously owned by the US Navy in San Diego and the Canadian Coast Guard, respectively—fit 10 passengers and are designed for safe, comfortable rides.
- The tours: Visitors can hop aboard one of the boats for a harbor cruise, with attractions that include Semiahmoo Bay, Birch Point, Kwomais Point Park, the 49th Parallel markers, and the Peace Arch Monument. Whether guests opt for a daytime or sunset tour, they're sure to see wildlife ranging from eagles to harbor seals and porpoise. White Rock's namesake tours, are longer than these harbor tours and take guests to the San Juan Islands for views of private bays, coves, and of course, southern-resident and transient killer whales.
- The commitment to conservation: Although Andrew and Meera want to share their love of the ocean, they all want to preserve it. That's why White Rock Sea Tours and Whale Watching not only offers school and community presentations, but support other organizations' conservation efforts. These groups include Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, The Center for Whale Research, Raincoast Conservation Foundation, and Vancouver Aquarium.
