Essential China: Beijing, Chongking and the Yangtze River

Days 1 to 3: Arrival in Beijing

The capital city is brimming with history and places to visit that are as educational as they are impressive.

  • Tiananmen Square: as a symbol of the city and the largest square in the world, Tiananmen Square will charm you no matter who you are.
  • Imperial monuments: the Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven are known as much for their scale as for the treasures they hold.

Day 4: Beijing to Wuhan via High-Speed Train

The capital of the Hubei province in the centre of the country owes its fertile soils to its position at the meeting point of the Hanjiang and Yangtze rivers.

Days 5, 6, 7 and 8: Cruise on the Yangtze River

  • Destination Jingzhou: This ancient city overlooks the river and is still an important transport hub today.
  • 5-Star Cruise: On the first night, guests put on their finest to enjoy the Captain’s Welcome Party.
  • Three Gorges: Admire the Xiling, Qutang and Wu gorges, home of the world’s largest hydroelectricity project.

Days 9, 10 and 11: Chongqing, Beijing and Flight Home

  • Chongqing Zoo: Get all “Oooh” and “Aaah” in front of these majestic beasts, including adorable red pandas, and also the Giant Pandas
  • Visit to Ciqikou: This ancestral village is famous for its production of authentic porcelain pieces.
  • The Great Wall (Simatai): This famous wall is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the section at Simatai is perched on some of its most abrupt mountain ridges.

  • How do I pay for the trip? Payment is made when purchasing the coupon. If you choose to extend your stay or add any extras, you will be charged for these by Vacances Sinorama according to the relevant agreements in place.

  • Can we travel from different airports across Canada? The prices shown are valid for departure from Montreal, Vancouver, Ottawa, Quebec, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Saskatoon or Regina. A $300 or $500 fee will apply to fly from another city. A direct flight between Montreal and Beijing is available with Air China only.

  • Are tourist taxes included? Yes.

  • Is a visa required for travel to China? Yes, a visa is required, and costs $180 per person (subject to change) for Canadians. This is not included in the cost of the trip.

  • Can I bring my children? This trip is not recommended for children under 11.

  • What class will I be flying in? Can I upgrade? The flight is booked in economy class by default. However, upgrades are possible for an additional fee (which can vary between airlines).

  • Are any vaccinations required for travel to China? There is no particular vaccine required by Chinese authorities. However, certain vaccinations are useful for personal protection, for example against hepatitis A and B, and diarrhea (caused by a change in diet).

Limitations: 1 coupon per person, per trip. May buy additional coupons as gifts. Price is per person in double occupancy. If travelling with a friend, 2 coupons are required.

Other conditions: Additional fees may apply if you modify a reservation you have made. Non-transferable. No refunds from Groupon or Vacances Sinorama after reservation. Not compatible with rewards programmes. Hotels are subject to change without prior notice. In this case, a comparable hotel will be provided. For a trip in single occupancy, contact the tour operator. An AeroPlan card is required to make a reservation, but AeroPlan miles are not applicable. Valid for the option purchased only. Taxes and fees: TPS, TVQ and FICAV contribution included. Non-free activities are at the expense of each traveller. Visa required to enter China: additional $180 per person (price subject to change; varies for those not holding a Canadian passport.) Travel insurance not included. Service fees for local guides, drivers and luggage hold at the hotel (about $10 per person per day) are not included.
