Each 5- to 10-minute session uses a laser to create an explosion of micromolecules of ink under the skin, thus dulling the design. Even though it is impossible to predict how many sessions will be required, eight are normally enough to enough to lighten a tattoo enough as to make it invisible under a new tattoo.
